We were first time dog adoptees and they were very patient with us and all of our questions. They made several candid recommendations on things we should know and would need and were flexible with our schedule to come and finish the adoption. We appreciated the extra time and are glad Turnip is part of our family.

We have adopted 9 dogs from The ARK in the last 15 to 17 years and every one of them have been outstanding. We prefer older dogs, even though we know that they won’t be around as long as a puppy. We have adopted one that had Heartworms which they paid to treat and we adopted another that had suffered from abdominal tumors, but they also paid to treat that. They were very upfront about any medical issues and they do their best to treat them and take care of them Before adopting them out. In fact, we are in the process of adopting another dog from them. My grandmother recently visited this shelter after losing her dog and was interested in a puppy she saw available for adoption. The staff member she spoke with made an unkind comment about her age, saying she was “too old” to be looking for a puppy that they could die before the puppy. They also refused to let her see it due to other applications that have already been put in, suggesting she get an older dog instead. I’m very disappointed with how she was treated. My grandmother is healthy and capable of caring for a pet, and no one should be judged or spoken to that way when trying to adopt. I hope the shelter addresses this kind of behavior in the future.

I wish I could give 0 stars. We went to the ARK today to see about adopting Shotxy. The owner kept pushing us off and asked if we've been to a doctor to be evaluated because we wanted a Feisty 7 month old Puppy. We were ultimately denied because we don't have our 2 dogs on Heart Worm Preventative. As we were leaving she told the other employees that we didn't really want the Puppy. If we didn't want it why in the world did we drive up from Pekin and stay there 1.5 hours? Even though we love the Furbabys, WE WON'T RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE.
