Tall Tails Training & Boarding

Bill and Robyn trained my Golden Retriever, Bodi, and he always enjoyed staying at the kennel if I was going on vacation. Fast forward to my latest buddy, a little rescue, Japanese Chin/Spaniel mix named Percy. He is a sweetheart but, quite anxious and has some separation anxiety. He’s been with me for a little over a year now and one of the first things that I did was introduce him to Robyn and the kennel. I knew I was going to be taking him there because I had a few trips planned last year and I knew they would take the time to understand him and make him feel comfortable. I adopted an 8 year old German Shepard through Tall Tails. Her name is Lexi, as part of the process I did some training with Robyn, Bill and Lexi. After demonstrating the proper way to get Lexi to heel they gave me the leash. I barked at Lexi like I was a Marine Drill Instructor and she was my newest recruit. They very politely explained to me that was not how it worked, it was more like talking to a companion. I quickly got the hang of it and Lexi responded immediately. Now after 4 months I must say Lexi is the best behaved dog I have ever owned. Her behavior at home and in public is stellar. She has truly become my constant companion. Our labradoodle, Willow, loves Tall Tails. She even knows where she is once we pull into the driveway and gets excited. Everyone loves her there and treats her so special. Such a great place for a “pawcation”!

I boarded my sweet girl for the first time ever last week - I was really nervous because she is 15, she’s an old lady and set in her ways, and any time I travel she is just miserable - doesn’t eat, her tummy is upset, she’s depressed. It’s actually why I wanted to board her because her behavior was stressing out my usual sitter, who wasn’t sure if she was okay or just sad. Well, turns out a week here was just what she needed! She seemed to thrive on the stimulation from having more people and dogs around, had a great time, great appetite, and came home completely tuckered out and very happy. After researching, we decided to bring our 1 year old rescue here for their board and train program. We chose Tall Tails because their advertising specifically states they train using positive reinforcement only and specialize in working with rescue dogs. These statements sadly are not true, as they used a prong collar on our fear reactive dog without our consent. During our consultation, we made sure that Bill (Co-Owner/Trainer) was fully aware of the issues our dog has, including his fear reactive behavior. Our dog was in their care from Dec. 29th to Jan. 17th. We received little communication while our dog was in their care, including not having a concise pickup time.
