Standish Humane Society (not open to the public- visit our website)

My fiancé and I wanted to adopt a cat after our beloved bunny passed away, and Standish was amazing. The only thing is it is completely volunteer run so the hours on the website/Google aren't always accurate, meaning just because they "close" at 2 doesn't mean someone is not working, and communication isn't always the best between the volunteers, probably because they have so many applicants and they don't all work the same hours and some work from home. So pack your patience when waiting for a call back, but be assured someone is always looking through the applications. It took about a week and a half to get approved (which is relatively quick for a volunteer run shelter) and then we booked an appointment for the following week to meet the cats and we brought home our Luna Bean that same

Its obvious that they truly care about the cats at their shelter and make every effort to work with the people who wish to adopt, so they are able to make a well informed decision. This is the first time I have ever written a review online, because I feel my story with Standish needs to be heard. I work as an emergency veterinary technician so I see a lot of strays/injured cats walk through our doors. I fostered a cat through Standish starting this past March. He was on a four month rabies quarantine after being brought into the ER for a wound of unknown origin. After his quarantine I decided to adopt him. My experience with Standish at the beginning was amazing. I raved about the adoption process and the staff, and was more than happy to recommend Standish to anyone looking for a pet. They are very friendly, committed and dedicated to the kitty cats. It was an excellent experience and happy to have been able to adopt very good cat and give him his furever home.
