Somerset Animal Shelter

I was seeking a kitten that would be comfortable around dogs, as I have three at home. We adopted “Socks,” now named Mr. Biscuits, and he has integrated wonderfully into our household. The process was quick and the adoption fees are cheaper than most. He is exceptionally social and has formed a strong bond with our dogs. We are grateful to Jen for fostering such well-adjusted and affectionate cats.

The staff here are not just employees; they're guardians of the stray and surrendered animals in their care, ensuring each one's journey to a forever home is filled with care and consideration. They are a no-kill shelter. There is a commitment to creating a safe, organized space where animals can flourish while awaiting their new families. This is one reason that they require a scheduled meet-and-greet for the dogs. If you think about it, it's best that the dogs aren't subjected to random people walking through and disrupting them in their kennels regularly, especially those dogs who may be timid and feeling vulnerable. They are good most part other than my cat kept having diarrhea after getting spayed but it was from his wet food most likely cuase after that we stopped wet food and it went away in a flash

We just adopted a six month old black and white kitten. She seems too like her new home and is very happy and playful despite just being spayed yesterday. She came with all her first round of shots, as well as a flea treatment. My seven year old daughter loves her and I'm sure they will be the best of friends! The shelter staff was very helpful, and made picking her up a breeze. Thank you Skowhegan Animal Shelter for getting my daughter her first pet! I would recommend anyone to stop in and look around! They are open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

I had a great experience at the Somerset Humane Society in Skowhegan! I drove all the way from Brewer when there was a severe shortage of adoptable pets in the Bangor area. I got to adopt a sweet, beautiful female cat who has made my life so much better at a dark time. The staff at this facility are awesome! They take great care of the cats. They are helpful, courteous and respectful to adopters. Wonderful attitudes and customer service. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to adopt a pet. I think you will be very satisfied and it will be well worth it!
