Small Door Veterinary - Williamsburg

I have been bringing my chihuahua mix, Harley, to Small Door for over four years. When they say their vet care is so good you’ll ask if they take humans, they mean it — especially Dr. T. Harley is a senior lady with a lot going on, and Dr. T is endlessly thoughtful, thorough, and kind. She considers every aspect of Harley’s health, consults specialists on our behalf, and never pushes tests or treatments until we’re ready. Her compassion and steady guidance have been a huge comfort as we navigate Harley’s senior years and recent diagnoses — and knowing Dr. T is Harley’s doctor gives me tremendous peace. It’s a welcoming experience as soon as you open the doors. The receptionist was friendly and warm. Again, an excellent first impression. They provide free beverages for us humans and plenty of cat and dog treats. We also got a free toy for our cat, Cookie. The vet team is very friendly and professional. Provided recommendations for treatment and preventive medicine. Our visit was for cat vaccinations and to schedule and learn more about the spaying procedure. All and all a great experience.

Ah, how I wish I could give this place less than one star. On two separate occasions, my dog was injured by the staff at Small Door. He went in for a simple set of vaccines, and yet on two occasions left with his paw bloodied and in a cast because they ripped and tore his dewclaw. The reaction I received from the Eastern European tech on the second instance of this happening? "He's a dog. Get over it, what do you expect happens when they fidget?" I'm sorry, but if you injure someones animal on what should have been a VERY basic procedure, take some accountability and apologize for the situation.
