Seattle Animal Shelter

We found our friend at this shelter. We visited several shelters, but for some reason we kept wanting to come back to this one. I can’t say that other shelters are bad or that the animals there are less wonderful — everywhere there are so many sweet animals hoping for a chance to find a family. But here, we felt a special level of love and care for their animals. We were also impressed that on some weekends we were not allowed to adopt certain dogs, because the staff explained that those dogs would not be a good fit for a family with a young child. That meant a lot to us. It felt like the people working there understood right away which dog was meant to be ours — they suggested him to us even before he arrived. And they were right. It’s been 3 years since I’ve adopted my boy, I had walked in, hoping for a cat and was greeted by a wall full of animal portraits who all needed homes. I had lost my dog that year and wasn’t really looking for another one, but on that wall, I saw puppy and he looked exactly like my old dog. My heart waved and I asked to meet him, Within minutes, I was outside in a little area and they had brought him out to meet me with a small bag of treats. They gave me a few minutes to bond and my heart was melted. I knew right then and there that he was going to be coming home with me. A few forms later small adoption fee there he was in the backseat of my car. Often busy but the staff are doing their best in a challenging environment. Could do with additional support to have a larger facility with more quiet spaces for the dogs. Mostly large breeds leaning towards pit bulls, but a fair amount of husky mixes since this is the Pacific Northwest. Still, lots of other breeds and varieties but you have to apply quicker to get a chance with those more desirable dogs. People looking for a calmer experience should consider middle aged to senior dogs. Lots of years of love and they will be much less disruptive.

Incredible place to adopt animals. The staff and volunteers are incredibly friendly and helpful. They were able to answer all my questions and make my adoption process smooth and simple. I'm so grateful for such a wonderful animal shelter.

Going to the animal shelter yesterday added 50 points to my happiness cup. The friendly staff allowed me to take a look at all the animals and I was able to take a walk with Rico with a shelter volunteer and give him treats. I am looking to adopt a pet soon and I wanted to explore my options. The establishment is well maintained, the bathrooms are clean and 3 animals got adopted when I went yesterday. I am exploring one more option and if that doesn't work out I will be back in two weeks to get my new furry friend.
