Scott County Kennel Club

I am a member of the Scott county kennel Club after training here for several years off and on. I love being a member and coming to classes every week. My dog enjoys it too! There's a large variety of different classes available. I highly recommend signing up for a class and seeing what you can do with your dog!

I walked into the third puppy class and the trainer had each puppy putting on prong collars, for a class 6 months and under. While some of the information I learned was useful, I am honestly in disbelief that a county kennel club would be telling NEW PUPPY OWNERS to use prong collars as an initial method of leash training. It’s pretty widely known that prongs should be used as a last resort and NOT for young dogs. I was judged for saying I didn’t want one and I then found out after the class the prong collars were BEING SOLD to the class attendees, which is incredibly icky. The official AKC website states that prong collars should not be used. I would like to acknowledge the director of training, Joanne, and one of the trainers, Ron, for their exceptional knowledge and support. When I raised a concern regarding a negative experience with another trainer, they worked diligently with me and my dog to ensure our needs were addressed. While I found the interactions with the assigned trainer to be less than satisfactory, I have greatly appreciated the overall approachability, friendliness, and dedication of the other staff members throughout the training process. and facility.

My dog loved going and we did beginner 1 twice. She got better at walking on the leash and we had a good time together. Only reason I gave it a 3 was because they forgot to give me a certificate the last night for graduation and the lady said she didn’t remember me even though I had just done 6 beginner 1 classes in August and immediately resigned up for a repeat beginner 1 🤷🏼‍♀️ Also, there’s not a lot of classes open (no more beginner classes open until March) so we will be going elsewhere. I’d say, if you live close by then to give it a try. It just wasn’t worth the drive for me anymore.

SCKC is my 'go to' for obedience. When I moved to the QC many moons ago, they were located at Gaines/River Dr. That building must have had mold which triggered asthma. It was hot, dank, icky. This location is climate controlled and breathable! They have never let me down in the 20+ years and numerous dogs I have trained while enrolled in their classes. There is reliable consistent instruction without judgement. Any questions have answers. Their website lists the wonderful variety of classes available. Some are obedience, agility, scenting, and herding (different location). SCKC also hosts a yearly rated dog show around Mother's Day at a larger location.
