I went there and they were very professional and helpful. They showed my husband and I around. They helped us later on with placing a dog. They were very kind. Ben Langford and the officer with him that day were amazing! They really care about animals and I'm glad the shelter has professional and compassionate people like these guys. Thank you for the job y'all do.

I recently visited the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter, and for being an animal shelter, it truly exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere was surprisingly warm, clean, and welcoming nothing like what you might imagine when you think of a typical shelter. They have so many amazing animals that you honestly want to take them all home… okay, maybe not all, but definitely most! The staff deserves a lot of credit as well. Everyone I spoke with was friendly, patient, and genuinely passionate about the animals in their care. They were informative, answered all my wife and mine questions, and made the whole experience feel comfortable and positive. If you’re looking to adopt, volunteer, or just stop by to see some furry friends, I highly recommend the San Marcos Animal Regional Shelter. It’s

I called them to see if they could take some strays and was told yes. I had strays that showed up to my yard several weeks ago. The male was almost dead and the female was pregnant. I spent $3500 curing them of mange, Giardia, getting their shots and having puppies delivered. They were not in an adoptable condition. By the time they were, I called the shelter and was told to drop them off. Immediately when walking in you can tell the lady working there hates her job. They told me it was euthanasia on drop off. I didn’t want these dogs euthanized. They were small adoptable dogs and one was a puppy. A younger nicer girl fetched a troll from the back who just wanted to repeat like a broken record that I owned the dogs because I had them more than a few days and “iT iS tHe LaW, wAnnA SeE iT!”.

The staffs are very kind and friendly. Some really good people work there. We had to gave my son’s dog BB back to a breeder who lived in San Marcos 5 years ago due to a few incidents, he was a biter. My son missed him very much throughout the years. Recently he ran away from the breeder, then got hit by a car or something. The Shelter found us due to the microchip inserted in him long time ago. We gave them the breeder’s informations. Unfortunately they couldn’t locate the breeder. So they had to put him down due to his severe condition. But Nick the Vet kept us posted, even took a few pictures for us. Help us through the whole process to cremate our dog. He finally home with us, he’s no longer a danger to our youngest daughter. It’s bitter sweet, but BB found his way home to us. I know he

I’m hoping this doesn’t reflect the whole shelter staff, but we had the worst experience here. We brought a pitbull we found Friday night to the shelter Saturday morning. Okay, I understand that the intake is not available during the weekend (which is infuriating but at least it’s not their fault). But we really had no other option for this dog and were begging them to make an exception since it was just us there dropping off any stray at the moment, and we can’t keep the dog at our house because of our small dogs. Then two animal control people came out. They didn’t even say what it was for and simply asked for our IDs. So we initially assumed that they were trying to help us go through the intake process and naively handed them our IDs. Nope, they took those to trap us and treated us l
