I have been a sitter with Rover for years, and the company's customer support and contractor support is horrible. My dog was attacked by a rover dog and inevitably had to be put down when they refused to help further. They commit tax fraud as well. I recommend finding a sitter privately because they are an all around HORRIBLE company to work for, and provide no support. They take 20% PLUS a 10% "service fee" PLUS charge tax on the total amount so effectively taking 30-40% away from the sitters who do ALL of the work. This is illegal because they charge and KEEP 100% of the tax charges for the total amount and do not release the 70% of the tax money taken from the client to the independent contractors which are the sitters who are responsible for claiming their own taxes for the work they 1

My account was permanently closed due to alleged “multiple chargebacks” and what Rover described as “continued use” of a card not in my name. For context: the card in question belonged to a family member who had authorized its use. When Rover requested proof of authorization, I provided written confirmation as requested. Additionally, after my account was paused the first time, I began paying my dog walker directly via Wells Fargo Zelle outside of the Rover platform. I did not continue using that card on Rover after services were paused. I was hit with a defamatory review from a client who retaliated after I refused further service — and despite providing evidence and submitting multiple complaints, Rover refused to take it down. Their so-called "Trust & Safety" department does nothing but copy/paste canned replies while pretending their Terms of Service don’t apply to sitters. The review violates their own policies around misleading and malicious content, yet they left it up, knowingly enabling falsehoods to damage my credibility, income, and mental health. As a sitter, I had a dog escape and he bit me and several other people who were trying to rescue him. I notified the owners and luckily the rest of the visit went great. Owners wrote a great review. Rover always asks at the end of a job if there were any escapes or bites. I responded with a yes. Rover emailed on Friday, Valentine’s Day evening about it. It was also Presidents’ Day weekend. I was away for the weekend. Sunday night I opened my email and Rover said that I was fired and no appeal possible. The sitters and walkers are great, BUT the site itself is horrible. They must have two people and 5,000 AI's working. You cannot contact anyone except an AI which only provides answers for questions they themselves have generated.
