Just can not in good conscience give a five star review. Staff was extremely rude and just did not care about what the actual situation was at the start. After being yelled at by multiple staff members and they eventually calmed down, was able to have a civilized conversation where I was able to explain things and get the information that was needed to move forward. But the first 15 to 20 minutes was high tempered staff members that just did not care about hearing the back story to anything. After that, they were helpful, but couldn’t give a 5 stars for that.

I adopted a dog not even 2 weeks ago that tested heart worm positive yesterday. Rhea County wants to do nothing to help but offer “free euthanasia” excuse me??? For my TWO YEAR OLD DOG!!!! Because they’re treating 3 other dogs that are positive. What a shame and disappointing animal shelter. I spent forever looking for her and drove HOURS to get her. Then paid $135 just for adoption. She wasn’t even spayed. I’d never adopt here again.

Found a small and freezing kitten late last night, with ears that were minutes away from frost bite. I called and said I was bringing in an emergency rescue, but the man who answered the phone said they do not take animals on holidays (because animal emergencies know how calendars work) and when I asked what could be done I was rather rudely told “I don’t know what to tell you dude, I can’t take it” if the person they hire to answer the phone refers to animals as “its” I’d hate to see how they treat the animals in their care.

We were welcomed by lots of friendly helpful humans, and the fur babies were all ready to meet their possible forever mom and dad, I was allowed to spend as much time as needed to see if there was a connection, in the end we brought home Mozzarella (now Bella) I really wanted to bring one of her babies home with me too and was hopeful that he would still be there after a couple of days, (not the case, he was too precious my heart was broken when we received the text he was adopted) however Bella is the sweetest dog ever, travels well and is adjusting, they made sure she had her shots and microchip and she will be scheduled to be spay. They were very loving to all the animals we visited.

I love Rhea Co Animal Shelter. They are wonderful to all the pets there. And their customer service is very helpful and nice. I love they aren't a kill shelter. I adopted Jazzie yesterday and she has adjusted very well with our family. And of course already spoiled rotten 😀 Thank you Rhea Co Animal Shelter for helping me friend my forever fur baby!
