We drove 12 hours round-trip (3 days) to get our pup Forrest. Adoptions are on a first come, first served basis. The regulations are different than where we live (they spay/neuter and cover it or allow you 60 days to do so). We had to pay the adoption fee and then return next day to pick him up from his neutering. Please note that you have to pay one of their two private vets to spay/neuter. No alternative options as it’s required by law for them to leave. Our guy weighed 26 pounds and the neutering with bloodwork and pain meds was a total of $431.24. So just be prepared for a similar fee on top of the adoption fee if you get a unneutered or unspayed pet. We took him to our vet and he was in great health. If you’re thinking about adopting, this is a great place to do so. Facility is clean

I adopted my first cat at this shelter while they were having a Valentine’s Day adoption event. At the time, the adoption fees are waived and it was the last day of the event. I walked into one of the cat rooms and Karen Townsend asked me the right questions and listened to what I was looking for in a cat which led me to originally named PPM now named Ginto (pronounced Gheen-toe), my new forever fur baby. Thank you PWCAS and staff for hosting this nice event and everything that you do.

I was looking for a cat that I could have as an emotional support animal because I am disabled. I asked so many questions to the staff about my unique living situation and how to prepare for adopting a cat, and I was never met with condescension or disdain. Everyone there was very kind and I could tell they were doing their best to accommodate the animals with the few resources they get from the county. I took a chance on a shy girl named Confetti who would get scared and hide when people came to her cage. I am so happy that I did, because I love her so much and can't imagine a world without her! Thank you to everyone at the Animal Services Center for their immense patience with me and for helping me find my best friend!

I absolutely love PWC Shelter. I have rescued 1 cat and 3 dogs from there in the past 10 years and they always have been helpful and kind. Thank you all for everything that you do! Pictured below are babies I've rescued from them. Taro (Formally Ted), Lychee (Formally Loba), Suika (Formally Karma), and Tanuki (Formally Pirate)

We've adopted 2 cats from this shelter, our older cat 8 years ago and our new cat just last week. Both were healthy, our older cat was already spayed and the shelter arranged for our new cat to be spayed (she is recovering well so far). There were so many friendly cats to choose from and it was a very hard decision! I saw that some of the other cats we met have already been adopted, which is great news. We likely won't be taking in any new animals in the near future but will definitely consider going back if, down the line, we decide to add another member to our family. I'll also be recommending this shelter to others I know in the area.
