Positive Response Dog Training

Looking back, I feel compelled to leave this review so others seeking behavior modification training for reactive dogs can make a more informed decision. I worked with Jim over a year ago and signed up for a four session package based on his recommendation. At the time, I didn’t realize how inadequate that would be for the level of behavioral help I needed but I now believe that should have been clear to a professional trainer from the start. From the very first session, there was no real relationship built with my dog, which is concerning for a behavior case. Instead, the trainer immediately used high pressure on the e-collar without taking the time to observe or connect with my dog first. This felt more like forcing submission than building trust. What a difference my Dobies have become thanks to Jim from Positive Response Dog Training. I own a male 112 lbs 18 months old and his sister 86 lbs 11 months old from same parents. Our Dobies are a new breed to us although we have family and experience from the outside of them. When Jim first came to my home, even before we shook hands he was working, studying me and my dogs. After going over our bucket list of things we wanted to perfect, we went to work. With only three sessions and a LOT of off training practice, we now have two of the greatest dogs we have ever owned. After exploring a couple of different training options, my girlfriend and I came across Positive Response. Jim answered right away. We were very impressed with his approach and his background, so we ended up booking with Jim that same day. Just 3 weeks later, we are so impressed with how our Bernedoodle puppy (Teddy) has progressed under Jim’s program. Walking Ted is easy and fun again, and we no longer have to worry about Ted being “too friendly” at other peoples houses or in public. Jim’s practical and tailored approach to Ted’s training made us very comfortable, but most importantly worked wonders on our little guy. We reached out to Jim because our puppy was barking and lunging at every dog and person she saw. We couldn’t do anything to break her focus and stop this behavior. By the end of our last session, she was listening to us telling her to “stay” and “come,” even while she was off-leash with Jim’s dog nearby. We are able to walk her without the fear of an unwanted behavior, and we are confident that we know what to do moving forward, so that we can continue to reinforce everything she has learned. It was a pleasure to work with Jim. If you yourself are reading this review, looking for a trainer honestly look no further. Before working with Jim I took my dog to AWA for a few training sessions and can say that was a waste of money. My shepherd is 6 months old and we were having issues with nipping, recall, and leash pulling. He is now a completely different dog within just three weeks.
