I know pet stores are bad. Puppy Brokers have a terrible reputation. But after a bad experience in the early 2000’s at a place that’s no longer in business, I have to tell you. Petland is trying to change the narrative. I found myself “between dogs” during the pandemic. We had lost a dog unexpectedly because an irresponsible pet store in Mariemont. They had sold us a “puppy mill” puppy. He made it almost 2 years with what turned out to be underdeveloped kidneys. We were heartbroken. My son was afraid of big dogs because he had been bitten at a friend’s house by a “rescue”. I was on every rescue’s approved list that I could get on without acceptable fencing. We were playing the “find a dog” game in 2020. We would arrive to meet an adorable dog we had seen on-line. The “Rescue Volunteers”
My family has been going to Petland for a decade now. We got our first dog, a Shiba Inu, 8 years ago and have loved watching her at every stage with her human siblings. My kids love coming in to see and play with the puppies. Years later we fell in love another dog, a fluffy frenchie. When we purchased him, they included a lifetime warranty as long as we followed their program. High quality puppies are expensive so we felt it necessary to have the insurance of another puppy when our dog would pass. We never expected to need to use it so soon but sadly our frenchie passed away at only 2 due to an accident. We were so grateful to the staff for supporting us through the whole process. We visited several times looking for the right fit and the staff was always so warm and welcoming. They woul
WARNING!!! This place is not great at all. For one, they run a puppy mill. Two, when they text you and reach out to you, they will tell you a reasonable price but when you get there you will find out it’s THOUSANDS of dollars for a puppy. For an example, we were told that a French bulldog is $10,000 because they have issues breathing and it’s some sort of surgery they have to have done? Makes no sense. They even have a payment plan which is kind of crazy. We told one of the staff that we can’t see paying that much and she was like “well maybe she just isn’t right for you then”. That rubbed us the wrong way. Like, excuse me? Not to mention they get you to bond with the puppy before telling you the actual price. We walked out with our girl Luna. (We didn’t pay for her personally but I’m not
I came in a about a week ago just to look since I have not been in a Petland in over 8 years. Clearly I was not missing much. While the place was clean and the puppies all seemed to be happy, I felt the staff was pushy. So pushy that they should hand in their notice and go sell used cars. I thought I was trying to be sold a 2015 Honda Civic but instead im being sold a Pomsky. The Pomsky I ended up sitting with was great. When asked if I was taking him home and I said "No", that's when the staff got passive aggressive with me. I heard them being pushy with several others as well. Questioning why they did not want to take home a puppy with them. I know I was not the only one who felt uncomfortable. When I asked about a German Shepard, the staff member did not answer and said "if I let you ho
This is not Petland this is Dogland. Walked around store looking for cat food, finally having to ask a staff member. She took me to a tiny section with 3 small bags of incredibly overpriced cat food. She seemed embarrassed and said, “we probably won’t have what you’re looking for.” There are like 40 dog food options? Strange. Went to leave and stopped by to see the puppy they had out on the floor. Poor dog had dried poop crusted in its fur that appeared to have been there a while. Seemed happy/healthy otherwise. I stopped by because it was on my way home, having never been to a Petland before. I’m not sure why anyone would visit a shop like this. There are so many shelters and rescues full of animals that you would spend far less $ on. Clearly the business model is not centered around
