The people here were incredible from the second I walked in the door to the second I left. They were incredibly informative, very professional. Everyone was kind. Screening me to view the dogs was straightforward, private, and organized. Although the interview was thorough it just felt like a conversation. They made sure I knew what was happening at each step. Having previously had a negative experience with a different shelter I really appreciated that. My dog was trained on the basics. I did not have to teach her to go potty outside. Because she was used to training picking up and teaching her more was easy. Most importantly, I could tell my dog was loved. Thank you for taking care of January ❤️

The best pet shelter in San Diego and the best one I’ve personally worked with. A few days into my foster-to-adopt journey, my puppy was injured, and the staff immediately stepped in and stayed on top of his care every step of the way. Their communication, compassion, and dedication made a stressful situation so much easier. You can truly tell they care about the animals and the people who care for them. I’m incredibly grateful for this team and would recommend them without hesitation.

I contacted this rescue about a dog listed as “foster-to-adopt only,” then was told the dog was already in an active foster-to-adopt placement. The listing did not indicate any “pending” status. I understand not removing animals until adoption is final, but adding a simple status label (pending/hold/backup applications welcome) would prevent people from applying under the impression the dog is still available. The lack of transparency and the response to that feedback left a bad impression.

My family had a very disappointing experience with Paws of Coronado. We met a young Rottweiler they had named Griffin who was calm, sweet, and great with our one year old son. The three staff members who witnessed our meet and greet even said they could see him bonding with our son and the potential he could have in our home. After our meeting we were suddenly told he wasn’t suitable for homes with children under 13, and we were mistakenly misinformed. When we asked why, the manager and behavioral specialist blamed their own team for “misinforming” us instead of taking accountability or being opened minded to his positive interaction. We even tried another meeting with the behavioral specialist. Instead of letting Griffin interact with us she sparked the conversation on her reasons he wo
