Now and Zen Dog Training

I wish I could give Nan and her style of dog training a 10 star. As an new dog owner 10 years ago, I did "ok" with my first dog but when I got my second dog about 3 years later that's when things changed. Nan was recommended to me by a friend. Nan came to my home and evaluated both my dogs and "me" and then began to offer her experienced opinions of how I needed to begin. We attend her obedience classes (different levels for each dog)where she helped me to be the owner my dogs needed. Nan uses a positive reinforcement approach to training and this was very important to me. Dogs are like people in that they have different personalities and different needs, once I learned what each dog needed with Nan's help, I was able to communicate with each of my dogs in a way that was successfu

We stayed at one of Nan's cabins last year. I spoke to her about my concern that our golden retriever would not play with a toy. She was able to get him not only to play but to catch and retrieve. We call her the miracle worker at house. What a pleasure to meet her and work with her.

We were worried about some challenging behaviors from our 16-week-old rescue puppy, and our vet recommended Nan. Nan came to our home and thoroughly assessed the concerns, then asked us how to elicit the behaviors. She repeatedly demonstrated in a clear and kind manner how to address the issues across our 2.5 hour session. Not only did Nan show us multiple effective techniques, she explained why Little Boo was behaving as she was, giving context to the problem behaviors and showing us direct and flexible solutions. We are much clearer about how to move forward with Boo thanks to Nan! Nan has a special way with dogs. She immediately impressed us with her obvious care and love for our pups. Her knowledge is vast and she offered customized solutions for every unique issue we faced. But, beyond that, she immediately bonded with our dogs and showed us how we could relate to them in a healthy and kind way, even when we were dealing with behavioral issues. We adopted two young puppies from a local shelter over a year ago. It was an emotional decision, not well thought out! And we found ourselves overwhelmed almost immediately. If not for Nan, we might not have made it through. Now, our dogs are happy, healthy, reasonably well behaved members of the family and that is due to Nan's patience, kindness, and expertise!

Nan is just the best trainer ever! She is truly a positive reinforcement trainer with solutions and answers for every possible issue. She is readily available and is always able to work us by phone or in person. We have not had a dog for a very long time and Nan has been an integral part of getting our Aussie puppy off to the best start. We have been working with Nan for about 9 months and we feel like our very well behaved boy is a absolute testament to Nan’s training. He loves people and other dogs and is very well behaved. Nan’s approach is perfect for us. She is patient, practical, understanding and very supportive! She never has a harsh word…even when we may make a mistake. We just love her, as does our Aussie.
