Northcoast Marine Mammal Center

Just so everyone is aware, this place is NOT just a gift shop! It's an actual rehabilitation facility for seals and sea lions! While they offer a cool gift shop at certain hours (with good prices! & mostly run by volunteers & open more in the summer) They most always have patients that you can view for free from the fence line, and it's very educational. Plus it's run by awesome friendly people, almost all volunteers! They can really do a lot with such a small space! It's amazing! I am so grateful this place exists. It's the only coast rehab for over 350 miles and the last stop before Oregon, which unfortunately it's illegal to rehab marine mammals once across state lines (in the whole state of Oregon!) So it's a blessing to have it at the most northern tip of the state! I hope we all supp

During our trip to Crescent City, California, we had the pleasure of visiting this center. One day, we were just walking around and stumbled upon this center. We looked at and admired the seals but found the gift shop closed. Undeterred, we returned the next day, purchased a charming Christmas seal ornament🦭🎄, and made a donation. The dedication of this center and their mission to rescue and rehabilitate marine life left a lasting impression. If you’re in the area, don’t miss this heartwarming experience!

What an amazing thing these volunteers and limited full-timers do to save abandoned and injured seal pups. Also an amazing thing the city of Crescent City does to make the site affordable for this organization. Definitely worth a quiet walk-around to see the pups and great little gift shop to bring some of those memories home. Limited contact creates a better environment for their eventual release back in the wild.

The only reason I give this a three-star rating is it says on their door they're open 11:00 to 4:00 I believe Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday close Saturday and Sunday. But on their website it says they are open Thursday 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11:00 to 4:00 p.m.. but they're not. They are closed and and and they need to change their website ours

We happened to be on the beach when they were releasing four seals. It was a really cool thing to get to witness. We went to their gift shop afterwards and the girl working was really nice to my kids and told them the names of the seals that were released. They thought it was cool to get to watch them be released also.
