Nelson SPCA - Operating Almost Home Pet Adoption Center

For context, I lived 8 years in an apartment that did not allow pets. I wanted one, especially through the pandemic, but could not afford to move. Last year, my long time girlfriend and I moved to Lynchburg to start over and be closer to what little family I have left. Once we had our feet under us, we shopped around for a while. From Amherst, Appomattox, Danville to Lynchburg, etc. and we couldn't find what we believed to be a good fit for us. After several months of searching, we decided to stop into the Nelson SPCA. The staff was friendly and welcoming the minute that we walked in the door, asking us questions to try to help meet our needs. Walking around with them for a while, we saw Teddy, a 9 week old kitten. Great staff that really cares about finding a loving home for their animals. My new kittens have adapted quickly to their new home and I feel that the love and attention that the SPCA gave them has had a lot to do with that.

Almost Home is awesome! We went and adpoted a absolutely wonderful 3 month old little purr baby. He is so happy to have a forever home. Miss Rose and her staff are so awesome! If you are looking to adopt a new pet this is the place to go! So happy with y'all!

Hello all! I adopted my girl Mia from Almost Home last November. She is very dear to my family, and she is often the light of my day. I'm proud of Almost Home's dedication for their animals, and everything that they do for the Nelson community. Our family has had many experiences with Almost Home, and a couple have been sad, but all in all, this shelter has some of the most caring staff and volunteers I have ever seen. Thank you, Almost Home, for being awesome!

If you need to report for animal abuse please don’t waste your time with these people. They have been called so many times about animals that are being abused and do absolutely NOTHING about it. The animal control officer even made the remark, and I quote: it’s easier to just go pick up a dog and just stick it in a kennel then it is to rescue a horse. Which is absolutely absurd when ur JOB is to make sure these animals are taken care of. They clearly don’t care about the welfare of animals and don’t do anything about the ones that are being abused and slowly wasting away every day. In my opinion this place needed to be reported and put out of business.
