Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center

Impressive facility. Looks clean and well maintained. We had some pet toys and other items to donate. They have a donation bin for that purpose. Friendly staff.

I BEG YOU, DO NOT GO TO THIS SHELTER. This was the worst experience I have ever had with a shelter. While I was in class, my roommate came home and my dog ran out of the apartment. He is a rescue that I adopted a year ago, and this behavior is extremely unlike him. He is very anxious, and I’m sure he was trying to find me. My roommate started searching while I rushed home, and he was gone for a maximum of an hour before we were told he had been taken to the Iowa City Animal Shelter. I immediately drove there, completely distraught. My roommate called because they were closing in three minutes. The man who answered asked if I had my dog’s vaccination records. My heart dropped because they were still at the apartment, but all I cared about was getting my baby back. My roommate asked if the

I adopted my beautiful girl from here, and they were so so helpful with the whole process. I was having trouble with my landlord in regards to my ESA letter in which he refused to cooperate with a shelter for me to adopt. The staff here were still able to get me approved for adoption, and were extremely understanding and knowledgeable about the process. Incredible people who work very hard for the welfare of all the animals in their care.

Beautiful facility located on some nice trails. The staff was friendly and helpful. Would recommend getting your next fur baby from IC animal care or consider volunteering and/donating!

The love and care this shelter has for the animals and ensuring everyone is matched up with a pet is amazing. Adopted a kitten here a few months ago and have recommended it to everyone.
