Hilltop Kennels

Hilltop is our favorite! We tried several boarding facilities in Cedar Rapids and Hilltop was the winner. They took care of our dogs so well, and adapted to their unique personalities. They’re professional, consistent, and they truly care about the dogs.

Fine place overall, but I would not recommend for cats. Pros: Staff was kind and responded quickly to messages while watching my cats. They successfully gave my senior cat her meds (no easy feat). The barking is a bit quieter as you go deeper into the building. The place smells clean. The cats are healthy and happy now that we're home. Cons: The cats are kept in the grooming room, in kennels directly on top of dog kennels for grooming clients. That means they are *not* kept in a room separate from the dogs as advertised, though it does mean there are no dogs in there overnight. The place is next to a set of three railroad tracks and the dogs never shut up, so it's very loud.

I booked my dog’s stay over the phone with the owner David pleasant and easy. However, he forgot to inform me that first time customers pay at booking. Something I have never done before as I always book my dog for boarding. Which wasn’t necessarily the problem … the problem was his front desk help a woman with a blonde ponytail. I did not receive her name … she had an awfully rude attitude the entire time of booking , she answers the phone and the client must’ve of not heard her because she YELLS at them 3x *can you hold , I get it but can you hold* . Meanwhile I ask for the total for boarding and bath. She tells me the price with continuous unwelcoming behavior *oh David might not have told you about the first customer pay*. I of course say no, I’ll look elsewhere because I did not inte

I cannot say enough good things about Hilltop! The short story is that I needed to board my already sick kitten while I was away on business for a week. The morning of drop off, she went to the vet again and had 2 more prescriptions on top of her existing one. They were amazing with her! I called way more times than I will admit and I was greeted with kindness every time. The owner kept up communication with me as she did struggle the first couple of days. His wife and kids came in to give her meds, love, playtime, and lots of cuddles. By day 3, she was back to her wild baby self. I wouldn't hesitiate for an instant to take her back, or to recommend them to anyone. She was so spoiled and loved, I couldn't have asked for anything more.
