I have worked in veterinary medicine for many years now and I have always referred patients to Happy Tails but have been lucky enough to not need after hours care for my own pets very often. I had to take my very dramatic puppy to them very early Friday morning and everyone was so lovely! The CSR at the front desk was awesome, our technician Jessica was wonderful and Dr. Childers was very sweet and explained everything thoroughly. I appreciated that cost was communicated up front and my options were explained to me. I have been to other emergency facilities where this was not the case and I was hit with a big surprise bill at the end of our visit. I will also shout out that their new building is beautiful and very clean! Hopefully we don’t have too many emergency visits in our future but

I took my dog here for an urgent but non-critical need. Nevertheless, I was stressed about his wellbeing. The care and service we received could not have been better. He was at the clinic for about 8 hours in total as his situation was low priority. He was a very happy boy when I picked him up, and sporting a cute bandana! I appreciated the phone call from the vet explaining the wait and her thorough review of the exams performed. The techs and receptionists were all wonderful, and I received a follow-up phone call about two days after to check on my dog’s condition. The costs were well-explained, too. Thank you!

My cat Ophelia had a medical emergency Saturday afternoon. I rushed her to Happy Tails a blubbering sobbing mess. She was struggling to breath, her tongue and gums were blue and she was clearly in a critical state. They took her back immediately, got me situated in a private space and started her on oxygen. Her situation was very touch and go. Throughout the entire time she was at Happy Tails, the doctors and staff communicated clearly, professionally and with genuine empathy and care. Ophelia’s injury is unusual and the team took the time to conduct extra research, collaborate with colleagues and made sure I was getting the best information they could possibly provide when time was of the essence. Ultimately, I was incredibly fortunate that Ophelia cashed in a few of her 9 lives in one

During the period of snow and ice we just got, I was frantically searching for an emergency vet and this place was the only place with staff that could care for my baby. They were recommend by halifax county animal control in Virginia. My Yeti didnt make it and I will never forget that day. The compassion was sincere from Dr. Barnes and staff. I received his ashes back in a timely manner and the itemized receipt brought a tear to my eye. My bill could have easily been more. A couple prayed for us in the waiting room, it was an all around good experience given the circumstances. Thank you Dr. Barnes

I brought my fur baby Whiskers, my 15 yr old cat in on Dec 29. She was in a very critical state. They went above and beyond, to help me with the difficult decision to let Whiskers go and not prolong her suffering. I just wanted to thank the entire staff that worked that night, for their kindness, professionalism, and compassion.
