Garland Animal Shelter & Adoption Center

I recently adopted a wonderful GSD (Ava) at the Garland shelter. The workers were great, allowing us time to bring our other dog in for a meet and greet. The description posted on the web page was spot on. They made the foster to adoption process extremely easy. She is an absolute joy and has brought a lot of happiness to our home.

I was unexpectedly rushed to the emergency room hospital unconscious. I had no phone, the hospital had me sedated , for 4days , there was nothing I could do. My landlord had Garland animal shelter come and pick up my 3 dogs from, my home. My landlord and my neighbors went to the garland pound and explained to them what happened to me and why the animals were there. I was informed by my neighbors while I was in the hospital that if the dogs were there for over one week , they would be adopted out. 4 days later, when I rush over there to go pick up my dogs and pay the $165.00 fee, I had received several voicemails from garland animal services regarding my "lost" dogs I had several voicemails from the pet chip company regarding my "lost" dogs and several emails as well. Great customer service! Personalable! Knowledgeable! They answered all my questions with out a attitude which is such a breath of fresh air!! And so very much appreciated. This place is definitely Clean!! Looks like all the puppies and large dogs are being well taken care of. I appreciate that very much. Although I have found my baby yet, I'm staying hopeful & positive that I will soon. Thanks 😊

Went in to look for a deserving cat to adopt and was not disappointed. Staff was very helpful and kind. The facility was very clean and laid out in a manor that made it easy to see all the adoptable animals. I found a sweet orange tabby whose owner had recently passed away and am happy to report he is already adjusting nicely to his new home and my dog.

I would like to acknowledging that the Garland Animal Shelter is a very nice facility, and it is clear that the animals are well cared for. I appreciate the effort and dedication that goes into maintaining such a positive environment for these pets. However, I would like to share a concern regarding the adoption process. While the shelter is supported by tax dollars, it appears that many of the most desirable dogs, particularly those that seem to be pure breeds, are quickly tagged by rescue groups as soon as they become available. My family has attempted to adopt three different dogs, but each time, the dog was tagged by a rescue and removed from the adoption list before we could even visit the shelter. In two cases, we even reached out to the rescue groups directly, only to find that th
