Dinwiddie Animal Shelter is amazing. They staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The shelter is clean and the animals are well cared for. If you are looking to adopt a puppy or cat please go see them.
We had a stray dog show up in our driveway and after 5 days of trying to find her owner, we took her to the Dinwiddie County Animal Shelter. This facility is very nice and smells clean. You would never know there were 30+ animals there. I was told that they have an above average adoption/forever home placement rate. She was too sweet and gentle to be a hunting dog is my guess. She paid no attention to our dog and 3 cats. If you are looking for a wonderful, young, playful dog check her out. We called her Cindy.
Our family adopted a sweet dog from this shelter. The moment we pulled up we were greeted by a team of staff that welcomed us into the place. They listened to our wants and needs and helped us to pick an awesome dog. As the nice lady walked us through we noticed how clean and organized this shelter was. We could tell that the dogs respected the staff...honestly one dog barked and the lady looked back at that dog and said no no barking and that was it. I was amazed. Congratulations on a well run shelter.
These officers are doing the hardest jobs in the county. They have to see so much awful suffering and they provide all the care they possibly can for these animals and they do it with compassion and grace, even on their days off. They don't deserve any of the criticism I see in these reviews. They are very responsive and caring, much more than the surrounding counties. A note to the critics: Animal control is not responsible for providing vet care for your animals. They are also not responsible for rehoming your dogs and cats when YOU irresponsible adopters decide you don't want them anymore. If you turn an animal over to animal control and they end up euthanized, that is YOUR fault, not theirs. Euthanasia happens for all kinds of reasons, including illness, injury, and yes, someti
The male officer and one of the women at the front were very helpful and wonderful with the animals. We ended up adopting 2 dogs there and they were very accommodating to our requests to take the dogs out of their cages so that we could interact with them. The adoption process was also very easy and the fee was an astonishing $75 that included spay/neuter and first rounds of vaccines (including rabies). That male officer and the front office worker also seemed very knowledgeable about the animals in their care - despite most of the animals being strays and no information being provided on them. The only reason that I didn't give 5 stars is because there is a younger woman at the front who does not speak to you, acknowledge you when you walk in or stand there waiting for help. Not sure what
