If you’re looking to adopt (or foster), please don’t overlook Desert Humane Society. This shelter needs more visibility and community support. We adopted our new dog Jet here and had a positive experience overall. Everyone we met was kind, and it was clear the staff genuinely cares about the animals despite limited resources. Jet was clean when we met him and appears to be in great health. We also appreciated how understanding the adoption coordinator was about allowing a proper meet and greet with our senior dog Gus (15 years old, 14 pounds, and very dog selective), which helped us feel confident in the match. This shelter is very full and many dogs have been waiting a long time (6 months to 2 years). Compared to shelters that get more attention and donations, this location in Desert Ho

We looked at rescues and shelters for months for a dog sib for our Dutch. Saw a post on IG for a pup at a shelter 2 hours away. I reached out to poster (Danielle), described our girl, and asked what she thought. The pup was being adopted that day (yay for the pup!). As my search continued, Danielle had more questions about our girl and lifestyle. After many more Q&As, Danielle suggested a pup, one that I had not considered. Danielle felt that the pup would not only be a good match for our dog, but also a good match for our lifestyle. We were intrigued but not sure…. Still more Q&As later, we decided to drive up to meet this boy Sully. We could not believe how sweet he was AND how our dog reacted to him: he was the first dog she really seemed to like! After a group walk, Danielle left us i

I just adopted a six-year-old male kitty named Figaro from this shelter, and I had a wonderful experience. I was surprised at how open and stimulating the rooms were where they kept the cats. They were not in cages, but had run of these three large rooms with big windows and a catio built so they could go through a pet door to the outside and get fresh air. There were cat towers everywhere and plenty of food and freshwater. Danielle was very informative and answered all my questions. This poor baby has lived his whole life except the first five months in the shelter, so he is not very trusting right now, But I am going to win him over. He was all ready to be adopted— Vaccinations, chipped, and even a large bag of his favorite kibble to send home. I highly recommend that you take the To vis

Danielle really made my husband and I’s experiencing in adopting a dog for the first time so much easier! She answered all of our questions and let us have multiple visits to bond with various doggies until we found the one we adopted! She even sent us home with some training tips and everything we needed to succeed in making sure our new dog would be comfortable in his new environment. 10/10 recommend coming here if you are looking for your next addition to your family.

We had a great experience with this shelter, and with their very helpful and caring staff. Danielle is fantastic. When we got our kitten home, he was already very socialized and comfortable with humans. We could tell that he received love while he was waiting to be adopted.
