Columbia Gorge Humane Society

Whenever I visit The Dalles I walk past the shelter and see volunteers caring for the shelter residents (Cleaning, Feeding, Walking, Playing, loving them), even on weekends and holidays. I just setup a monthly reoccurring donation in their Happy Tails Club. Please keep up the great work!

Today my friends needed some dog food after recently losing everything they own. So I made the trip to The Dalles and asked if they (CGHS) could help and they were so awesome and understanding and were very kind. The Dogs that were needing food was so happy to be able to eat thanks to the Humane Society and all those who donate. If you donate, thank you for have made a tremendous difference not only in the lives of this family, but the dogs who will now eat for a month or more.

Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Did not rush me on the process and let me meet my now doggo multiple times before committing to her. Adoption fees were reasonable considering I adopted a puppy and she was vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped.

They took a kitten I found on the road, no questions asked. As a fellow veterinary professional, I was SO grateful I didn’t have to have a wild kitten on a 7 hour road trip!

The management acted in a discriminatory fashion. I called several times, emailed, and even drove (over three hours each way) to meet a kitten I had fallen in love with, only to be put off and strung along with excuses about being "busy" over and over. Finally, I was told that she was already adopted and that "all the kittens went so fast ....blah blah blah." I was not even considered. I know she was not adopted when I met her over a week ago. The staff that introduced us mentioned that I might even be able to take her home that day since I had driven so far. Highly suspect. :-(
