Canine Starr

I contacted Joseph as soon as I moved to Bushwick. I was looking for a dog walker who might be able to do a little dog training with my older pup. It’s been a great fit and he’s been very flexible and personal. Plus he takes great photos!

8-Week Board and Train Program My dog Beatrix (Bea) just finished the Canine Starr 8-week board and train program in Bushwick, and I couldn’t be happier. She’s 60 lbs at 16 months old, and when I adopted her from Waldo’s Rescue at 5 months old, she was already fearful of loud cars, skateboards, sometimes people, and often times dogs. As she got older, her reactivity escalated, lunging or growling at all dogs on a leash, chasing every squirrel or pigeon, and panicking around anything with wheels. Her obedience was also inconsistent, and as a super smart working dog, she often challenged me. I’d heard amazing things about Joseph from friends and people at the dog park, but I was still anxious about sending her away for 8 weeks. I recently boarded my 6-month-old puppy with Joseph for two nights (three total days) after also doing several training sessions with him at home, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. He is incredibly patient, attentive, and skilled — you can tell right away that he truly understands and cares about dogs. The training sessions we did before boarding made a huge difference, and Joseph continued reinforcing that training while she stayed with him. She came home with noticeably better leash manners, stronger obedience, and was more relaxed on walks and in new situations. While she was boarded, Joseph kept me updated with plenty of photos and videos, which put my mind at ease. Communication was easy, and he was completely reliable throughout. It’s always a stressful process finding a trusted dog walker and boarding. Thankfully my coworker recommended Joseph to me. I have two rescues, one is a tripod and they’re both anxious. Joseph is super thoughtful and patient with his approach with my dogs. They’ve learned to trust him over time and love their walks with him. I’ve also boarded with him and my dogs thoroughly enjoyed their time with him. Joseph has great communication and always sends the best updates on my pups. Highly recommend! 💖

Joseph had walked my dog consecutively for about a month now… best decision I’ve made. Rocco 🐾 loves Joseph and I always appreciate the updates after the walk! The pack walks are great too - so Rocco can socialize safely with other dogs! Thank you for what you do!
