Burro Base Camp

I am blown away by the work Kim does. I had the wonderful opportunity to meet her and her donkeys last weekend. So many of her donkeys are in incredible shape, which is even more impressive when you learn that many of these gentle creatures have been saved from kill pen situations. Kim spent two hours with me and my family, introducing us to approximately 50 donkeys. We are new to owning equines and she had answers to every question I asked and showed me her entire property so I could set myself up for success. The adoptions rates are extremely affordable if you have the space for a donkey, too!

Burro Base Camp has been an amazing organization to work with. I wanted to purchase a single donkey to be a companion for a horse and started my search in January 2023. Kim was open to adopting out a single donkey if she had one that she thought would be successful. My husband and I went to visit the base camp and it didn’t take long to decide that one donkey just wasn’t enough. We decided upon two sweet boys, Teddy and Bruno, who weren’t quite ready to leave the base camp yet. Between January and May, Kim welcomed any and all visits for me to come spend time with the boys while they were being gentled. She was so helpful in answering all my questions and teaching me what was needed regarding care, handling, etc. Teddy and Bruno came home early May of 2023 and settled in quickly! One of

Adopting our burros from Burro Basecamp has been one of the best decisions we have ever made. Not only are Kim and her husband incredible at helping you find the right burro, they quickly become dear friends and a constant resource. They are a wealth of information and continue to provide support well after you adopt your burros. I had previously only owned horses, so burros definitely required some different thinking and care- Kim and her team were always available and helpful. I cannot recommend Burro Basecamp (and Kim) more. They are absolutely wonderful!

Burro Base Camp is a wonderful, caring rescue. Kim and all her help truly give the perfect care to each burro, as they need it and can handle it. They guided us through connecting with our burros, teaching them and making sure we were comfortable taking them home. After we had them home there is limitless support for us. They have made our lives so easy. We can ask any questions about anything and they are right there. I highly recommend Burro Base Camp if you're looking to adopt burros.

We have adopted donkeys on two separate occasions from Burro Base Camp. As first-time donkey owners, Kim has been an excellent resource in helping us with information we may not have located in our own research. She also was super gracious in allowing us to come and work with the donkeys we were looking to adopt several times before they were ready to come home. Being able to train with them under Kim’s guidance gave us the confidence we needed to continue with their training when we brought them home. Kim and Mike, among other volunteers, care deeply about the donkeys and it shows in their dedication to the adoptive herd, their own herd(s), and the continued support of all adopted donkeys. We have had nothing but positive experiences working with this rescue.
