My husband & I had been contemplating buying a puppy from a breeder, but instead we decided to adopt a 2 year old poodle mix from Brookhaven Animal Shelter, and it was the best decision we ever made! She is so sweet & smart, and watching her flourish in our home has been a true gift. If you have the love, patience & time to give to these angels, do it! What they give you in return is priceless. Thank you to all the employees/volunteers that make a difference. Keep going, your hard work matters.

my dog was held hostage here for SIX MONTHS last year in the cold winter. When I finally got her back, she was covered in bruises and piss. Now she’s afraid to go on walks, something she loved before, and often flinch like she’s been hit or abused. I feel very bad for the animal. You don’t have owners and have to stay in this terrible dog prison. Who knows what they do when no one is looking…

I adopted the most beautiful dog “Veronica” now named Nugget. Every individual from the receptionist, to the adoption coordinators, to the veterinarians, to the volunteers have been nothing but helpful, informative and simply so kind hearted. I worked primarily with Michelle and when I tell you she was so informative on every aspect without making me feel like a burden with all the questions. Following I had a question with the way Nugget was healing after her spay and the vet called me in a timely manner. I would recommend this shelter to everyone and tell you the process is worth it. Yes there is an application process but if that pushes you away from saving a fur baby maybe your heart is not fully ready to adopt! I went her for the free spay/neuter for pit bulls. The vet was amazing, giving me ask the information I would need and making me feel secure in leaving my baby in her hands. She called as soon as she was out of surgery and 6 hours later I had her back. It's been 2 days now and she is healing beautifully. I am thankful for this program and the professionals involved!

So my sisters cat was taken from her and brought here, she’s had this cat forever and loves him very much. His name is simba, well there vet tech fell in love with him and wants to keep him. No matter how much proof my sister shows them they refuse to give him back to her. I would be very careful with them. They want to find home for these animals but yet when the owner wants to claim them they hold the pets hostage! My sister loves her cats ! My niece and nephew love simba! Return the cat back to them! I am another proof he belongs to them.
