Bloomfield Animal Shelter

We adopted a small 7–8-year old female dog from here in November 2025, and honestly, she’s the BEST dog we could’ve asked for!!! SO SWEET, already trained, zero bad habits, and so loving. Huge THANK YOU to Jackie and her team for helping us find the right match! We were specifically looking for a calmer, trained dog, met a few doggies at the shelter, and then met the ONE!!!! & she just spoke to our hearts.( she just needed to be washed and groomed to show off her cute looks) & this dog is the perfect addition to our family and gets along with our cat :)

If I had the opportunity to leave a no-star review I would be more than happy to. I reached out to the shelter via email inquiring about a dog they had for adoption on their website on 11/20/2025 with some concerns about the dog and it's temperament. They never responded. I then filled out an adoption application, to which they responded to on 12/04/2025. I made an appointment to meet the dog that following Sunday. I went and met the dog....he was very sweet, was potty trained....but he didn't respond to his name, seemed alot younger than the listing because he was very mouthy like he was still teething, and didn't even know basic commands. I told the young lady that was his handler that I had to "go home and think about a few things" before making a decision. I called the shelter manager

I do not recommend this place. You will end up getting emotionally invested for no reason. They treat people terribly - they do not answer phone calls, provide no updates on your application, and make it difficult to schedule a meeting.

Been a fan of Bloomfield Animal Shelter for over ten years since adopting my dog. My experience was fantastic—I got to walk and spend time with dogs. This is a no-kill shelter, and the staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, answering all my questions. Some negative reviews seem inaccurate. Overall, a great experience, and I’ll definitely be back!

Be careful when making the decision to adopt from this place. They will collect a fee (can’t forget about the money) hand you over a pet without fully disclosing details that I’m quite sure they’re aware given the amount of time these pets are sheltered there until they are adopted. My dog was sheltered there for over a week, surely in that time frame he showed severe and I mean abandonment issues, regression, excessive barking, biting. Yet! When I did a meet a greet, it was almost like he had been sedated, he was doing nothing from the above! I only saw the real him once the sedation wore off (that’s what it seems like) Like most real pet owners, I immediately became attached and figured I would try to work on his issues (trainer, medication, vet visits, grooming) you name it, we tried.
