Adopted a dog in October, Harper. Told the staff we had a cat and another dog already. We get home and quickly find out that Baldwin County does not cat test their dogs before adopting them out. Harper attacked our cat. We decided to work with Harper and see if we could break her bad habit and couldn’t. We tried for well over a month to introduce her slowly to the cat and each time she turned aggressive and went after the cat. After calling and seeing if we could return her, they said no because it was after the 72 hour contract. So now the cat and dog have to be locked up separately and Harper is always trying to find a way into the cats room. Still trying to find someone to take this dog as she has made it an extremely hostile environment since day 1. All I can say is, start cat testing
Came here today to just look at some dogs. Well, ended up leaving with Miss Coral, a hound/lab mix. Staff are very friendly and showed me around the whole Kennel! God willling, I’ll be back to get my baby boy Monday. These pups go FAST so get there please! They are running a promotion where it’s half the normal fee. Dogs come spaded with the basic vaccines and a micro chip! Thank you so much!!!
We had a horrible experience, I called to check in on this dog I wanted multiple times and they kept referring me to the website to submit a form. The form wouldn’t submit, I must have put 50 in only to find out that “tHAtS bEEN hapPenINg tO otHEr pEOplE toO” I asked them if I could just come in and they said I needed an appointment. I was finally able to have a day to go and they had already adopted her out. Was a complete round-a-bout of annoyance and disappointment. The cause is awesome but the staff is not attentive at all and seems like they can’t be bothered. I’ll just continue to get my rescues from the haven like I have before.
Baldwin County shelter policy concerning cats is horrible! They refused to take in any kittens or cats. We had some stray kittens come to our home that were wild. I asked for the shelter's help because I did not want these cats to breed and produce more unwanted cats. They have a zero policy to help cats. I was told "just let nature take its course" which meant let the cats breed and die of starvation. They help with dogs some but not with cats. People that donate to this shelter need to know this.
I dropped off several crocheted dog mats, the ladies were very grateful. The mats are simple to make and will give the dogs a soft and warm place to rest. Hope the dogs enjoy them.
