The Balch Springs Animal Shelter is the best! You can tell right away how much the staff genuinely care about every single animal that comes through their doors. The facility is clean, organized, and the animals are well taken care of. I especially want to give a huge shoutout to Chelsie, the shelter manager. She goes above and beyond for both the animals and the people she works with. Chelsie is professional, compassionate, and incredibly dedicated — she knows every dog and cat by name and all about personalities. She works tirelessly to make sure each animal gets the best possible chance at a happy life, and she treats everyone (volunteers, adopters, fosters, and rescue partners) with kindness and respect. She cares so much about the dogs finding homes that she’s even driven them hours

I wish there as a -10 star review option because that’s what this place deserves. I am extremely disappointed and shocked with what a joke this place is. The way this department handles calls regarding stray or aggressive dogs is crazy. When I reported a stray, instead of addressing the issue, I was essentially pressured into taking ownership of the animal. I was then told I would be responsible for vaccinations and registration under a city ordinance or that it was my responsibility to find a rescue for this dog and even threatened with a citation if I did not comply. This place feels completely unreasonable and unfair to residents who are only trying to report stray or potentially dangerous dogs for the safety of the community.
