Appalachian Horse Rescue

Don't trust these reviews as they come from people invested in the business. Trust me I volunteered there over 2 years. While they might have been a good rescue at one time, they now are very uninvolved and use the horses for money. On many occasions horses went without medical care and some days no one would show up to feed them. They are left in the barn all day with no stimulation and are not rehabilitated at all. They go to first come first serve buyers and very possibly end up with kill buyers since no one checks on them after they are adopted out. If you love your horse, DO NOT send them here.

After a year of chemo for breast cancer, I could no longer take care of my horse. This rescue came to my rescue. They provided my horse with transport to the rescue, ferrier services (needed) the day after she arrived, medical assessment ,vet visit scheduled, wonderful clean barn, dedicated volunteers, individualized rehabilitative and feeding program. She’ll be ready for a loving home in no time. Thank you AHHR!

I'm a volunteer at the rescue barn. The horses are well cared for when they are brought in after suffering abuse or neglect. After they are brought to a state of wellness, they are posted for adoption to a forever home where they are monitored to make sure their needs are being met. It is a heartbreaking sight when some arrive, but a joyous occasion when someone comes to take them home and love them.

I absolutely loved this place I would absolutely bring my family up again… I worked at this rescue for my senior project and Norm and Pam are absolute sweet hearts I’ve made many good and Funny memories here! I Promised myself I’d come back when I was ready to work with horses again:)

We enjoyed seeing the horses and feeding them! Everyone loved it. Grab some smoothies at the McDonald's right next door and relax by the horses, you won't regret it =]
