Family of mine shared with me how disrespectful they were to my aunt. Tried saying a dog tried to bite my uncle which he did not. They wanted the dog because of the similarities he had with a previous dog they had. They got told they were not allowed to adopt him even though he has been in there for a decent amount of time. If your an adopting a dog I don’t recommend from them. They are rude here and have no idea how dogs are. They just assume the worst. This place needs educated. And fast

just adopted a new kitten from here. the staff are very sweet and helpful. we came in hoping to find a kitten as we have been looking for one, and thought we had no luck until a sweet lady told us that the kitten was available. we love her already!!

I cannot recommend Berea ARF for the following reasons. Most rescues and shelters allow you to walk in and browse the selection of cats and dogs. Most places have friendly and helpful staff to assist you in choosing the right potential pet. Unfortunately, Berea ARF is NOT like most places. As a pet owner for most of my life (I'm 68 years old), I've never had any issues with adopting my pets. The staff at Berea ARF are rude, arrogant, and condescending. Their policies are questionable. Our two encounters with them resulted in our being placed on a blacklist - we are now banned from adopting from them. The first incident was a miscommunication regarding declawing - we told the counselor that we did indeed have prior cats declawed, but we no longer adhered to that choice. He took it to mean

I am very disappointed in the communication at the shelter, when me and my family came in on a Saturday to look at a specific cat and spent time with the cat we relayed that we are interested and was told that we had to speak with the cat consultant about his medical injury and sign a waiver which we were ready to sign but that specific person was not at the shelter that day and the consultant emailed her stating that we were interested and needed to go over a few things. We called Sunday with no help and no response. Tuesday we called and talked to the front desk and said he was green lighted for adoption which I questioned and said that I still need to talk the cat consult about his medical and wait for a call back. We adopted Lolly approximately 2 years ago. My husband works at the prison where some of the dogs are trained for adoption. He had his heart set on another dog, but unfortunately, she did not get along with our other dog. As we were leaving, Lolly and her handler came walking up. She recognized my husband, and my other dog and her instantly became friends. Soooo…we decided to make Lolly a part of the family. It has definitely been a challenge. Not much was known about her, except she was found pregnant, wandering the streets. She’s had some potty training issues. And when left alone, she was very destructive.
