Acadiana Animal Aid

My first time at an animal shelter. I have had cats my whole life by adopting strays and giving them a good home. The staff was not friendly and almost treated me like a bother the entire time I was there. No one acted enthusiastically towards me being a person that was enthusiastic to give a new cat a good home after my precious pet had to be put down a month ago from unexpected cancer. The staff member didn’t even say she was sorry for my loss. Super awkward and weird experience.

Filled out an adoption form last Wednesday by Thursday they called me back! I set up a time around 3:30pm Friday 12/12/2025 to go check out some Cats they had because unfortunately My Precious baby, Cheeto went to kitty heaven and I missed having that connection with an animal. Anyway, I showed up and was greeted very nicely by a woman waiting at the desk. Then soon after a nice man came got me and we went to the back to meet all the kitties. The first one I met was coal stocking who I instantly bonded with. He was absolutely precious and just the sweetest boy. Kept trying to climb my shoulders! Which was just so adorable. After meeting with him I met another cat in the shelter then they took me to the cat cottage. Which had beautiful, sweet cats as well. I gravitated toward Daddy Long leg

I applied to adopt a kitten last week. They called and told me they had no cats available for adoption despite their website showing they had many. I was told they would call me when a kitten was available. A week later, I hadn't heard back from anyone so I decided to drive an hour to adopt one of the new kittens they just added to the web page. They showed me all the cats on site--everyone was super sweet. Then they told me to try Lafayette Animal Shelter, because all of the cats at AAA are unable to survive outside and because I disclosed that I had a cat-door, I couldn't be trusted. I thought these animals needed homes?! I can't buy a homeless kitten!!?? EDIT: Lafayette Animal Shelter is a far superior operation. Have been involved with this animal shelter for almost a decade. We've adopted, fostered, and volunteered for them. They are literally extended family! Love this place and everything they do to help out our furry friends!
